Workshops in the Centennial Garden
The Fraser Pacific Rose Society holds workshops in conjunction with
Coquitlam City’s Park Spark program.
“Wake Up the Roses” - March 15
Despite the rainy and sleeting weather, twenty people attended. We talked about how to wake up the roses and the importance of spring pruning.
The City of Coquitlam had purchased some replacement roses from Palatine Roses to plant and we managed to plant two roses despite the rain.
Summer Care for Roses - July 12
Participants discussed mid-season pruning, fertilizing and some rose pests and diseases. As well they had hands-on experience spotting blind shoots and examining rootstocks. Garden tools used were purchased with our Coquitlam Spirit Grant.
Roses 101 - September 13
Participants at this workshop learned about the different types of roses, their yearly care cycle, the importance of good gardening tools and other practical tips for growing great roses.
Rose Pruning - October 4
(Putting your Roses to Bed for the Winter)
During this workshop participants were told about the various ways to “put your roses to bed for the winter”. There were also hands on demonstrations on how to prune roses at this time of year.
