The Art of Flower ArrangingFloral Design ClassesDuring the year, we hold floral art classes on various design concepts for a nominal fee. For Fall 2023, we will be holding a 7 week course covering Introduction to Contemporary Design. The seven sessions will include: Parallel designs (Formal, Informal, Intersecting, and Graphic), Creative Line design, Line-Mass design, Creative Mass design, Plants and Flowers design, Miniature design, Petit design, and elements and principles of floral design. If you are interested in taking floral design courses, please contact us for further information about the courses. EXHIBITION CLASSESOPEN CLASSES are open to everyone with some restrictions for those in the trade who have received fees for floral design or for classroom instruction. AMATEUR CLASSES are open for people not in the florist trade or received fees for instruction. NOVICE CLASSES are open to people who have never won more than three first place awards at any structured floral design show. JUDGING CRITERIA out of 100 points as set out by the BC Council of Garden ClubsBALANCE exhibit is stable and shouldn't fall over RHYTHYM movement of the eye as it follows and the patterns of color, form or shape DOMINANCE the focal area of the exhibit SCALE size in relationship to the container, the flowers, the space PROPORTION plant material to container or one type of material to another CONTRAST light and dark, small and large, soft and hard COLOUR one color sets the tone or creates interest SUITABLE RELATIONSHIP OF MATERIAL a theme is reflected in the container and the materials DISTINCTION stands out in quality and presentation ORIGINALITY unique use of materials CONDITION OF MATERIAL materials are fresh, clean, without damage or blight. |
